Andhra University Team Pioneers India’s First Indigenous Drone Motor
5 November, 2024- A noteworthy accomplishment reverberates throughout the innovation corridors. There is now a vibrant group of scholars and graduates. They come from Andhra University’s esteemed Engineering College. This group has unveiled a revolutionary drone prototype motor. With this, India’s technical environment enters a new age. This prototype is the country’s first of its sort. It demonstrates the group’s unwavering commitment to quality, as shown by the moniker Technorama given to their startup. Only a year ago, they established this startup. Their mission is important and ambitious, and they operate under the Andhra University Incubation Council’s A-Hub. With an emphasis on the motor, they seek to indigenously produce drone parts.
Professor Mallikarjuna Rao heads this creative endeavor. He is the department head of electrical engineering and a directing force. He enthusiastically describes the advanced characteristics of the motor. Among these characteristics is their perfect compatibility with Electronic Speed Controllers (ESCs). This combination increases control and safety. Additionally, it improves the drone’s ability to respond to different obstacles. They designed the prototype with high torque in mind. This results in exceptional lifting capabilities and improved maneuverability. Surprisingly, it strikes a careful balance between energy efficiency and power production. Overall performance and flight duration are greatly increased by this balance. He claimed that a drone fitted with this innovative motor has achieved speeds of up to 55 km/h. Because of this, it is quite helpful in emergencies. He was proud as he said.
This new motor’s efficiency figures are astounding. They have a 92% to 95% range. In sharp contrast, the efficiency of current Chinese-imported motors ranges from 85% to 87%. Drone system indigenization is vital, according to Professor Rao. This requirement is critical for both economic viability and technological self-sufficiency. His goal is exactly in line with what the administration wants. By 2030, the objective is to establish India as a major base for drone technology worldwide.
The Indian drone market is currently valued at a staggering USD 1.20 billion. The market is ready for explosive growth. Analysts project the market will surge to USD 4.87 billion by 2030. Diverse applications drive this expansion. These applications span defense, agriculture, and healthcare. The Technorama team includes bright minds like T. Neelakanteswara, Rama Jayalakshmi, Dr. Rajesh, and Dr. Gautham. They envision making a significant contribution to the national economy. They commit to enhancing India’s competitiveness in the global drone arena. They tackle the pressing issue of reliance on imported components with vigor and innovation.
