7 January, 2025- Puri woke up to a security scare on Sunday morning. Authorities spotted a drone in the no-fly zone over the sacred Jagannath Temple. The breach occurred at around 4 a.m., raising serious concerns. The device hovered near the Meghanad Pacheri, the temple’s outer boundary wall. It then ascended toward the iconic Neelachakra. For nearly 30 minutes, the UAV circled various parts of the temple.

Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan condemned the incident. He labeled it illegal and a matter of serious concern. Authorities acted swiftly. Puri SP Vine Agarwal confirmed deploying two special teams. Their mission is to track down the culprit. Hotels and lodges in the area are under inspection. Another team is thoroughly reviewing CCTV footage. “The officers declared their determination to catch those responsible,” assured the officers.

The temple vicinity has been a designated no-fly zone for years. Strict rules prohibit unauthorized flights in the area. Drone operations here require prior government approval. Despite these restrictions, violations have occurred in the past. These incidents have led to awareness drives and stricter measures.

This latest incident has reignited debates about UAV security in sensitive zones. Officials have reaffirmed their commitment to enforcing the rules. They promised firm action to prevent future breaches.
