11 July, 2024 – To promote self-reliance in defense, the Defense Research & Development Organization (DRDO) has allocated seven new projects to private sector companies under the Technology Development Fund scheme. These projects are aimed at fulfilling various needs of the Armed Forces and the aerospace and defense sectors.

“By approving these projects, DRDO solidified its commitment to constantly support the Indian military and aerospace sectors’ enterprises, precisely start-ups as well as MSMEs. Developing these technologies domestically will enhance the military-industrial ecosystem,” DRDO stated in an official announcement.

Seven DRDO-Approved Projects

1. Indigenous Scenario And Sensor Simulation Toolkit:

This project, awarded to Noida-based Oxygen 2 Innovation Pvt. Ltd., focuses on creating a native toolkit for pilot simulator training in realistic scenarios, aiding in full mission planning and large-force engagement.

2. UNDERWATER LAUNCHED UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLE:

Pune’s Sagar Defense Engineering Pvt. Ltd. received this project, which involves developing versatile marine battlefield accessories for multiple combat roles, specifically targeting Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) and Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA).

3. Long-Range Remotely Operated Vehicles For Detection & Neutralization:

This project, assigned to IROV Technologies Pvt. Ltd. in Kochi, aims to develop dual-use systems for detecting, classifying, locating, and neutralizing underwater objects while keeping critical assets away from the suspected operational area.

4. Creation Of An Aircraft Ice Detection Sensor:

Craftlogic Labs Pvt Ltd. in Bengaluru was awarded this project, which aims to develop sensors to detect inflight icing conditions caused by supercooled water droplets that freeze upon impact with aircraft surfaces, subsequently activating the aircraft’s anti-icing mechanism.

5. Development Of A Radar Signal Processor With An Active Antenna Array Simulator:

Data Pattern (India) Limited in Chennai will work on this project to enable the deployment of multiple target systems for testing and evaluating multiple short-range aerial weapon systems. This is a fundamental component used in more intricate radar systems.

6. Development Of An Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System-Based Timing Acquisition & Dissemination System:

Accord Software & Systems Pvt. Ltd. in Bengaluru will develop this system to indigenize the timing acquisition and dissemination process, utilizing the Indian Constellation for time acquisition and creating an adaptable as well as personalized timing scheme depending on the required range.

7. Development Of Graphene-Based Smart & E-Textiles For Multifunctional Wearable Applications:

Coimbatore’s start-up Alohatech Private Limited has been tasked with this project, which involves developing conductive yarn and fabric using graphene nanomaterials and conductive inks. The goal is to create advanced nanocomposite material-based e-textiles for practical clothing applications.
