DJI has launched the DJI Dock 3, its first “Drone in a Box” solution that supports vehicle mounting. This innovation caters to public safety, emergency response, and infrastructure inspections, where continuous 24/7 performance is required. The DJI Dock 3 is compatible with the new DJI Matrice 4D and Matrice 4TD drones, expanding the DJI Matrice 4 Series with enhanced flight capabilities and durability.

Powerful Technology For Critical Operations

DJI aims to push boundaries in aerial operations. Christina Zhang, Senior Director of Corporate Strategy at DJI, highlighted the company’s commitment to delivering innovative and reliable solutions tailored to operators’ needs.

The DJI Dock 3 is built for tough environments. With pre-heating technology, it can function in temperatures ranging from -30°C (-22°F) to 50°C (122°F). The system is rated IP56 for dust and water resistance, ensuring durability against harsh weather. The Matrice 4D and 4TD drones come with low-noise, anti-ice propellers, allowing stable flight in freezing rain and winds up to 12 meters per second.

Enhanced Flexibility And Performance

The DJI Dock 3 offers maximum flexibility for emergency operations and long-distance inspections. As DJI’s first vehicle-mounted drone solution, it features horizontal calibration and cloud-based dock location calibration.

For advanced users, two docks can be installed on a single vehicle, allowing dual-drone operations. A D-RTK 3 Relay Fixed Deployment Version can be added for enhanced anti-interference performance, improving video transmission and satellite connectivity.

Dominant Drone Capabilities

The Matrice 4D and 4TD drones are IP55-rated for dust and water resistance. They provide 54 minutes of forward-flight time and 47 minutes of hovering. Equipped with multiple cameras, both drones include:

  1. Wide-angle camera
  2. Medium tele camera
  3. Tele camera
  4. Laser Range Finder

The Night Scene mode enables full-color night vision, while the Matrice 4TD also features an IR-Cut Filter for black-and-white night vision.

Optimized For Mapping And Inspections

The Matrice 4D, designed for mapping, features:

  1. 24mm wide camera (4/3 CMOS, 20MP, f/2.8-f/11, mechanical shutter)
  2. 70mm medium tele camera (1/1.3-inch CMOS, 48MP, f/2.8)
  3. 168mm tele camera (1/1.5-inch CMOS, 48MP, f/2.8)

When used with FlightHub 2, the drone can auto-zoom to track moving targets, such as vehicles or vessels. The Matrice 4TD, built for public safety and emergency response, includes:

  1. Infrared thermal camera
  2. NIR auxiliary light with 100-meter coverage
  3. Smaller 24mm wide camera (1/1.3-inch CMOS, 48MP, f/1.7)
  4. Same tele and medium tele cameras as Matrice 4D

Extended Range With DJI RC Plus 2 Enterprise

The Matrice 4D Series supports the DJI RC Plus 2 Enterprise remote controller. These drones can fly independently or use an onboard relay function. One drone can act as a relay, extending the range of another—even in areas with no 4G signal or obstacles.

This feature is especially useful for search and rescue missions or inspections in mountainous regions, ensuring reliable operations in challenging conditions.
