Army Begins High-Altitude Drone Events in Leh: Drone Technology

New Delhi, Sep 4: The Army has announced two key events. They aim to improve military operations in high-altitude regions. These gatherings will provide a forum for India’s drone industry. They will showcase advanced drone solutions. These solutions tackle challenging high-altitude conditions.

They’ve scheduled “HIM-DRONE-A-THON 2” for September 17-18, 2024. It will take place at Wari La, near Leh. The event will test Drone Technology under real-world conditions. These circumstances will occur at heights from 4,000 to 5,000 meters. The event invites indigenous drone manufacturers. They are going to show a wide range of drone capabilities. These include surveillance, logistics, swarm technology, and specialized drones. Some drones will handle electronic warfare and intelligence. Over 25 drone manufacturers have registered to compete. They will compete to prove their suitability and capabilities. Their purpose is to prove their usefulness in these harsh situations.

They will hold “HIMTECH-2024” on September 20-21, 2024, in Leh. FICCI is organizing this event in collaboration with others. It aims to foster innovation and development in military technologies. The focus is on high-altitude operations along India’s northern borders. HIMTECH-2024 will showcase cutting-edge unmanned networks, all-terrain mobility solutions, and cutting-edge military equipment. The gathering will promote Leh’s potential as an emerging technological hub. It will attract industry leaders, academics, and innovators.

Major General CS Mann is the Director General of the Army Design Bureau. He highlights the unique challenges. The Indian Army faces these challenges in high-altitude regions. These include areas like the Siachen Glacier and the rugged Himalayas. He noted how drones in these situations had a lower lift. They also suffer poor engine efficiency and intense frigid and strong winds. The Indian Army has unique challenges that demand custom-designed indigenous solutions. Success in these environments could open international markets for India’s drone industry. It could also establish the country as a credible drone manufacturing hub.
